DR.ME Studio Talk & Workshop Brief

www.dr-me.com

Today, we had a visit from the Manchester based design duo DR.ME (Matt and Eddie). This was an opportunity for us to meet them and learn a bit more about their journey since graduating from university.

Based in Manchester, DR.ME left university and moved out to New York, where they temporarily worked with Mike Perry.

Shortly after this, they moved back to London and started up their own studio in Islington Mill. Here they also worked with Steve. A few examples of their current projects here can be found at: www.wonder-room.eu.

What Do DR.ME Do?
"We mainly create work for musicians and music events such as record sleeves and posters."

Some additional advice from Matt & Eddie:
- Try to start your work approach analogue, then move to digital.
- Usually when collaborating with someone else, it works effectively to take one idea and form 4-5 ideas each, then compare these and see if there's a way they can be intertwined or if one idea is more effective than another.
- Working with clients -- go with your gut - sometimes it can be good to take a risk. Just because a client can't pay you, it does not always necessarily mean they aren't worth your time or investment.

After a short introduction, we were set a series of briefs to complete by the end of the day. These were to be completed in pairs. I was paired with Sarah Goldthorpe.

The briefs were as follows:

...................................................
Brief 01 // Vinyl Cover Design

"we're gonna be releasing a limited edition 12" of a mix Evian Christ made last year called duga-3..

We were discussing artwork concepts and Josh wondered if there was any way you could graphically represent the 10z tapping sound that makes up the duga-3 transmission?

Important to mention right now is that we don't have a lot of time to do this, as this release is intended for the record store day and they have super tight deadlines, so we need this by the end of today?
