Design Publication - Homograph Research

I limited my series of homographs to 12 - one homograph for each brief completed this year.

I began by writing out the list of brief in order as follows:

1. DR.ME
2. Yamaha
3. D.S.M
4. Rox Vox
5. Forty Years of Hip Hop
6. Intern Magazine
7. D.B.A
8. Sangria Kong Branding
9. Goodtype
10. Beyond
11. Megan Fraser Branging
12. Fellies

The next task was to find appropriate homographs for each project. The homographs were very loosely related to each project, whether it be their context, content or purpose. The homographs functioned as an interpretation in their own right. This meant some of the projects were specific and easily connected, and others, more ambiguous and abstract. I thought this was appropriate to my work process as I often find myself going off on various tangents or thoughts far from the original topic or subject.

While deciding on homographs, I found that certain projects were easier to connect with a homograph than others. The list below shows my initial thoughts. The homographs are shown in red:

DR.ME - record
Yamaha - combine,
D.S.M - impact / contruct
Rox Vox - display / rose / proceeds
Forty Years of Hip Hop - story / number / date
Intern Magazine - retake
D.B.A - conduct
Sangria Kong Branding - live / accent
Goodtype - fine
Beyond - uplift / coordinate
Megan Fraser Branding - attribute
Fellies - foot

I chose the final homographs based on how many aspects of the words were relatable to my projects. Some of the decisions were also based on how the visuals would look. For example, coordinates was chosen for Beyond because it gave me the freedom to experiment with mathematical and geographic means. So the final series of homographs were:

record
combine
construct
display
number
retake
conduct
accent
fine
coordinates
attribute
foot

As a starting point, I used www.oxforddictionaries.com to find the different definitions of each homograph.
